Join Preservation Virginia and the Virginia Department of Historic Resources (DHR) for a webinar to explore archaeology and community engagement, and how archaeology can be more relevant to present day issues and more accessible to wider audiences. Presenters will share how collaboration between archaeologists and groups who have ties to sites can benefit each other and the local community, as well as enrich the understanding of sites and how they relate to the broader local history.

The webinar will be moderated by Timothy Roberts, DHR’s Community Outreach Coordinator. Speakers include Dr. Kelley Fanto Deetz, Director of Collections and Visitor Engagement at Stratford Hall; Chief G. Anne Richardson of the Rappahannock Indian Tribe; Dr. Julia King, Department of Anthropology, St. Mary’s College of Maryland; Dr. Iris Carter Ford, Anthropology (Emerita), St. Mary’s College of Maryland and Montpelier Descendant Board; and Dr. Matt Reeves, Director of Archaeology and Landscape Restoration at the Montpelier Foundation.

The webinar is free, with a suggested donation of $10.00. Donate here. You must register to participate. Register here.
